Wandel von Produktionsarbeit – „Industrie 4.0“

Hartmut Hirsch-Kreinsen

WSI-Mitteilungen, 2014, vol. 67, issue 6, 421-429

Abstract: This articles deals with changes in the processes of production work under the conditions of adaptive intelligent production systems. These are technological concepts aiming at a new form of industrial automation and they are part of the debate on production technology which is discussed in Germany under the title “Industry 4.0". Preliminary research results and expert opinions on trends of production work are summarised in this article. In order to sufficiently analyse the associated conversion trends of work the concept of socio-technical systems is introduced. With regard to the changing processes in production work it is assumed that there are divergent patterns of work organisation. These patterns are characterised on the one hand as “polarised organisation”, and on the other hand as “swarm organisation”. However, the actual development of production work depends on a number of additional factors, such as the company’s automation concept and the implementation processes of the new systems. Finally, it is underlined that in the near future there will be only a limited diffusion of Industry 4.0-systems in the manufacturing sector.
