Project economy approaches for higher education: diversifying the revenue base of German universities

Ingo Rollwagen

Higher Education Management and Policy, 2010, vol. 22, issue 3, 1-21

Abstract: Structural changes and budget constraints are challenging German higher education institutions to change their management practices. This exploratory analysis discusses how institutions are increasing their collaborative efforts – and are doing so in a more structured way – with heterogeneous partners from science, industry and society. Their aim is to diversify their financial base, increase their global reach and excellence, bring into play synergies in regional settings, finance student demand and build joint educational products.
