Abstract:
The merlion park is a half-fish figure and half the lion's body symbolizes the beginning of a simple Singapore as a fishing village called Temasek, meaning 'sea city' in the ancient Javanese language. His head reflects the country's original name, Singapore, or 'lion city' in Malay.
