Abstract:
Abstract The world is young and better connected than ever, as a consequence of digitalisation. These developments inform the communications team at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) when designing new projects in the field of public and digital diplomacy to better reach out around policy priorities. The aim is to create engagement in novel ways and to take part in new conversations, offline as well as online, together with new and perhaps unexpected actors. After outlining some theoretical concepts that are guiding the strategic communications team, the article describes recent developments in the field of public diplomacy and digital diplomacy at the Swedish MFA, including Diplohack and The Stockholm Initiative for Digital Diplomacy, and how these projects are linked to each other, before moving on to the Midwives4all campaign.
