[eng] Abstract In the eighteenth century, the diocese of Auxerre knew an important progress of irreligion, more than the other dioceses. This is attested by various documents, such as sermons, pastoral visits, ordinations registers... A sectarian Jansenism, assisted by bishop de Caylus, seems us to have played the most role in this movement of de-christianisation : during the period 1780-1790, Christian religion has neither sense nor utility for a fraction of the population in this region.
