Procesos de segregación residencial en la población gitana. El caso Almeriense

Abstract: RESUMEN El objetivo de este trabajo es medir y analizar los procesos de segregación residencial de los gitanos que viven en Almería. Para ello hemos utilizado los principales índices de medida: disimilitud y aislamiento. De igual modo, se han realizado dos encuestas. La primera se administró a la población gitana, en la que se registran indicadores socioeconómicos, culturales y residenciales. La segunda se administró a la población autóctona no gitana, en ella se recogen emociones, actitudes y comportamientos hacia los gitanos. Los resultados muestran que los gitanos presentan elevadas cifras de segregación y que las principales causas de esta situación son los prejuicios y discriminación que sufren por parte de los autóctonos no gitanos y de su capacidad económica y, en menor grado, las preferencias por el endogrupo. ABSTRACT The objective of this work is to measure and to analyze the processes of residential segregation of the gypsies that live in Almería. For it, we have used the main measure indexes: segregation and isolation. In the same way, they have been carried out two surveys. The first one was administered to the gypsy population, in which register socioeconomic, cultural and residential indicators. The second was administering to the population autochthonous non gypsy; in that survey we study the emotions, attitudes and behaviours toward gypsy. The results show that the gypsies present high segregation figures and that the main causes of this situation are the prejudices and discrimination that suffer on the part of the autochthonous non gypsies and of their economic capacity and, in smaller grade, the preferences for the own group.
