Household Wealth in the Main OECD Countries

Riccardo De Bonis, Daniele Fano and Teresa Sbano

Rivista Bancaria - Minerva Bancaria, 2014, issue 5-6

Abstract: This paper analyses household wealth in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK and the US. Building on a data set on financial accounts since 1980, we discuss the trends in household financial assets, the reasons for differences across countries, the tendency towards convergence, and the effects of the global financial crisis. We also comment on the evolution of household debt and real assets. In discussing the empirical evidence, the paper summarizes some of the recent literature on household wealth.
