Estimation of inequality and concentration measures from grouped observations

Rodolfo Hoffmann

Brazilian Review of Econometrics, 1984, vol. 4, issue 1

Abstract: It is shown how the linear density function can always be used to estimate the within group inequality when computing inequality or concentration measures from grouped observations. The value of Cowell and Mehta's D-measure is analysed and new support is presented for their 1/3 and 2/3 rule.
