Abstract: In order to ensure the respect of the values that the European Union is based on, provided for in art. 2 of the Treaty on European Union, Article 7 of the same Treaty, provides for a mechanism of the European Union that allows to determine if serious and persistent violations of the values of the European Union by a Member State have taken place and possibly to sanction such violations.
