 Türkiye’de Sağlık ve Ekonomik Büyüme Arasındaki Nedensellik İlişkisiSami Taban Sosyoekonomi Journal, 2006, issue 2006-2 Abstract: In addition to the education which constitutes of the main resource of human capital, the level of health of society is another important element to foster and contribute to the human capital as well. Therefore, it can be argued that there is a close relationship between the health level of society and economic development. In the highly developed societies, both allocated resources for the health and the conscious of the individuals are increased. Moreover, the level of development also accelerates the economic growth by increasing the productivity. In this study, the relationship between the selected health indicators and economic growth are econometrically investigated in terms of causality in Turkey. As health indicators, we have used the life expectancy of at birth, the number of beds of the medical institutions, the number of medical institutions and the number of persons per healthcare provider. While the causality test results indicate that any causality relationship between the number of medical institutions and real GDP growth could not be seen, bidirectional causality has been found between the other health indicators and real GDP growth.
