Abstract:
This study undertakes a topic, which stands at an important issue of many countries’ economic agenda from the viewpoint of growth and employment; in the light of existing theoretical as well as empirical studies in this regard, the study aims to review with regard to the effect of fiscal consolidation on growth and employment. The study reveals that there is no consensus in the existing theoretical and empirical literature as to whether fiscal consolidation is an anchor or a fiscal trap for growth and employment but a fiscal consolidation programme that is put into practice in a sluggish growth environment increases the risk of the fiscal trap.Classification-JEL: E60, E62, H60Keywords: Fiscal Consolidation, Economic Growth, Employment, Fiscal Anchor, Fiscal Trap, Keynesian and Non-Keynesian Effects of Fiscal Policy
