Abstract:
Abstract The key purpose of this research is to investigate the nexus between biomass energy consumption and sustainable development. To achieve the objective, panel data of 19 Asian countries for the period of 1990–2019 have been employed. Pedroni and Kao cointegration test, FMOLS, and DOLS approaches along with variance decomposition and impulse response function analysis have been applied to analyze long-run relationships between variables. Empirical results indicate that biomass energy and sustainable development have substantial positive association, specifically utilization of biomass energy upsurges Asian economies’ level of sustainable development. In contrast, non-renewable energy has an adverse influence on sustainable development. Apart from these, each economy’s gross domestic product has positive effects on sustainable development. This study demonstrates the necessity of biomass energy generation for sustainable development. Asian nations should prioritize biomass energy over fossil fuels energy sources in order to achieve the SDGs by 2030. Further, this research can serve as benchmark for other countries' in recognizing the significance of biomass energy generation to accomplish the SDGs by 2030.
