A Test of the Cyclicity of Earthquakes

G. Dargahi-Noubary

Natural Hazards: Journal of the International Society for the Prevention and Mitigation of Natural Hazards, 1997, vol. 16, issue 2, 127-134

Abstract: The periodogram analysis of time intervals between successive earthquakes is used for testing the seismic gap hypothesis. Using the available data, it is shown that the existence of a periodic component can be rejected with high confidence. The test provides evidence against quasi-periodicity and regular clustering of the arrival times. Copyright Kluwer Academic Publishers 1997
