Abstract: Abstract— The rules of competition policy were carefully developed a long time ago, but the digital world and the latest advances in analytical tools introduce certain nuances to competition-related state activities. The article summarizes the methodological issues that have been identified in global practice of competition policy in recent decades. Approaches to the study of firm profitability and the new configuration of monopoly effects are analyzed. The question of the cost of state regulation of competitive processes is raised. The conclusion reached is that public policy of supporting competition needs to be reoriented towards more flexible approaches.
