Austrian GDP Flash Estimates: A Description of Methods

Marcus Scheiblecker and Sandra Bilek-Steindl

Austrian Economic Quarterly, 2006, vol. 11, issue 2, 79-85

Abstract: Due to the rising demand for quickly available economic data, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance requested the Austrian Institute of Economic Research to calculate rapid in-advance estimates of national quarterly GDP. Based on this, flash estimates on national accounts data have been published since summer 2005. This article describes the methods used, the estimated variables and publication policy issues.
