Abstract:
Critical changes in cellular and molecular processes that occur with ageing disturb the central nervous system’s homeostatic equilibrium. Metal accumulation makes the brain more vulnerable to neurotoxic shocks through mechanisms such mitochondrial failure, calcium-ion dyshomeostasis in neurons, a buildup of damaged molecules, reduced DNA repair, decreased neurogenesis, and impaired energy metabolism.
