Abstract:
The article studies major trends in innovations, science and education in Russia in 2000s. The analysis of key indicators (R&D expenditure, patent applications, the share of innovative companies, number of innovative technologies) shows that the recent increase in R&D expenditure has not resulted in significant improvements in the innovative and research activities. R&D expenditure itself is also still not sufficient. Moreover, the interest towards innovations and R&D among private companies is at a very low level compared to other countries. All these factors dwarf the successful development of the Russian national innovation system as well as demonstrate poor ties between its elements.
