Abstract: In this article the author describes the way of using the foundations of the general systems theory for the explanation of the most fundamental changes in Russian pension system from 11990 till now (including the changes made in 2013 – beginning 2014). One of the issues reflected in the article is the necessity of the pension paradigm change which should improve pensioners’ quality of life.
