Abstract:
Studies were carried out to comparatively assess the levels of pathogenic bacteria and heavy metals in the herbal liquors, roots and teas sold within Awka and Enugu metropolis using relevant analytical procedures and instrumentation. Three pathogenic bacteria (Staphylococusspp, Klesiella pneumonae and Aspergillus niger) were identified and isolated in the herbal root, liquor and tea samples sold within Awka and Enugu metropolis. The mean Cfu counts of the pathogenic bacteria in the herbal products were within the microbial contamination limits for medicinal plant materials intended for internal use.
