Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a leading cause of illness and death in developed countries and is epidemic in many developing and newly industrialized countries. Its macrovascular and microvascular complications are debilitating. The prevalence of diabetes in the world at all ages was estimated to be 2.8% in 2000, and it is expected to approximate 4.4% in the year 2030.
