Abstract: Although there are various treatment options for breast cancer, control of advanced disease often depends on surgical removal of the primary tumor. Unfortunately, both clinical and experimental studies have shown that cancer surgery may increase the risk of metastases and recurrence. This review examines the evidence for recent developments in perioperative factor and perioperativ intervention that is of relevance to postoperative breast cancer recurrence.
