A Closer Insight into The Role of Vitamin D in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (Pcos)

Abstract: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder characterized by anovulation, menstrual disorder, amenorrhea, hirsutism, and infertility. According to the Rotterdam consensus workshop to diagnose PCOS, at least two of the cardinal symptoms of PCOS must be fulfilled. Women with PCOS appear to have a higher risk of developing metabolic and cardiovascular disorders. Recent attention is being directed towards the role of vitamin D in several diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative and autoimmunine disorders. The present review introduces the role of vitamin D, its mechanism of action in the management of PCOS. In addition to summarizing the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of PCOS from previous published data.
