Abstract:
There has been a call that a more socially inclusive growth pattern is needed to achieve millennium development goals concurrently. To address this challenge, a new index for inclusive growth is created. The present study examines the association between inclusive growth and economic complexity index in 27 Sub-Saharan African countries for the period 1996-2019 using panel vector autoregressive model. The results reveal that economic complexity has a negative effect on inclusive growth in Sub-Saharan Africa, implying that there is a lack of sustainable growth in the region, mainly because the current economic growth is mainly driven by primary products.
