Abstract: The aim of this study was to describe the application of tariff and non-tariff by the European Union (EU) against Brazilian exports of agro products and the application of indicator Péridy et al. (1977) and sectoral specialization of Brazil in Mercosur. The year 2007-2010, there was a decrease in the process of internationalization and entry of Brazil’s agribusiness products in the EU, according to the indicator Péridy et al. (1977), evidence of the impact of tariff and nontariff barriers against exports from Brazil. An indicator of sectoral specialization of Brazil in relation to other Mercosur was applied, showing that the other Mercosur countries have degree of sectoral specialization with respect to Brazil in most sectors of agribusiness, discarding the Mercosur market as optional exports to Brazil. However, the paper concludes that Mercosur could increase the bargaining power of Brazil in talks to tackle the European protectionism.
