Abstract:
This article’s objective is to analyze the trend of concentration in the Brazi-lian financial system from 1995 to 2005, tracing a path from the structural changes after the 1950s to the last year analyzed. It’s performed an analysis of the causes and consequences of such changes to the national financial system and the verification of the concentration of this system by calculation of indi-ces of concentration. The conclusion is that, despite the strong tendency of concentration of the system and the high participation of major economic groups in it, it’s not yet concentrate based on the indices used. Additionally, there is a brief comparison of the Brazilian financial system with the global financial system, noting that the trend of concentration is not only a Brazilian, but a worldwide trend.
