Economic Class of Farm and The Farm Family Welfare Myth

Donald K. Larson

No 284554, 1974 Annual Meeting, August 18-21, College Station, Texas from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: The average income of farm operator families distributed size of farm business receipts gives a misleading indication of the well-being of farm families. For 1970, the distribution of farm taxpayers by basic income classes varied considerably within as well as between farm receipt classes. Thus, the link between size of farm business and family wellbeing should be considered but a myth.
