It is the purpose of this paper to determine underwhat conditions it is profitable to feed cattle in the Midwest. The major areas of interest are the profitability of alternative cattle feeding facilities, type of cattle to feed (calves vs. yearlings), importance of the scheduling of purchases and sales, and labor requirements for the different types of cattle feeding systems.
