Improved Estimation of Cattle Slaughter Through Generalized Least Squares

Thomas Spreen and Glenn Nelson

No 283987, 1976 Annual Meeting, August 15-18, State College, Pennsylvania from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: The problem of improving the estimation of cattle slaughter is addressed by (1) making suggestions for a better model specification and (2) exploiting more fully the available statistical information through use of generalized least squares. The results are contrasted with ordinary least squares estimation and illustrated by estimating withholding in 1973.
