IMPACT OF ENERGY COST ON IRRIGATED PRODUCTION, HIGH PLAINS OF TEXAS

John Shipley and D.W. Gross

No 283638, 1977 AAEA-WAEA Joint Meeting, July 31-August 3, San Diego, California from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: Irrigation well cost data and value of water in crop production were used to estimate price of electricity to equate net returns from irrigated and dryland production. Rising energy prices without corresponding rises in product prices could result in energy, rather than water, being the limiting factor in High Plains irrigation.
