ALTERNATIVES TO RAILROAD LINE ABANDONMENT

Abstract: Both the Regional Rail Reorganization Act of 1973 and the Railroad Revitalization and Regulatory Reform Act of 1976 make provisions for states to coordinate continuation of rail service on abandoned lines. Service continuation grants and track rehabilitation loans are available to encourage local line retention.
