ENVIRONMENTAL VALUES AND THE OPTIMUM ROTATION PROBLEM IN FORESTRY ECONOMICS

Dung Nguyen

No 284219, 1978 Annual Meeting, August 6-9, Blacksburg, Virginia from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: The model shows that, even for a forest that provides environmental services, it is always optimal to harvest, and the optimum harvesting age must be somewhere on the rising portion of the growth curve. Furthermore, an analysis based on the economist's criteria would not necessarily result in a much shorter cutting age compared to the forester's optimum.
