INCORPORATING SITE QUALITY AND SUBSTITUTION EFFECTS INTO A LAKE RECREATIONAL DEMAND MODEL

Peter Caulkins and Nicolaas W. Bouwes

No 279201, 1982 Annual Meeting, August 1-4, Logan, Utah from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: The authors develope a multinominal, logit model that estimates (1) how recreationists allocate their lake visits among alternative sites and (2) how frequently they participate in lake recreation during the year. Estimation procedures confirm the hypothesis that substitutes and quality characteristics are important determinants of demand for lake recreation.
