Price Competition Between Imported Wheat • Varieties in the Japanese Market

Richard H. Boyd and Stephen C. Schmidt

No 278161, 1986 Annual Meeting, July 27-30, Reno, Nevada from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: The study uses a Transcendental logarithmic (TL) function to estimate Japanese import demand for varieties of wheat. It concludes that their Food Agency fills annual quotes without regard for the prices of competing varieties. However, price differentials have a small but measurable effect upon the monthly scheduling of import purchases.
