Abstract: The proposed amendment to the 2002 Farm Bill would have prohibited packer control of supply in the beef and pork industries. It offers an interesting study of the role agricultural economists can play in shaping and influencing policy debates. In the aftermath of the debate, the question is: Can the profession do better?
