STRUCTURAL CHANGES IN HARYANA AGRICULTURE— THE ISSUES OF GROWTH AND EQUITY

Roshal Lal and R. P. Singh

Agricultural Economics Research Review, 1994, vol. 07, issue 2

Abstract: Technological breakthrough in Haryana agriculture has brough about significant shifts in the production, productivity and cropping pattern. Agriculture in the State is characterised by wide differences kits output and productivity performance across the crops and regions. The study, therefore, attempts to examine the structural changes in Haryana agriculture and its distributional pattern based on the secondary sources of data. The results revealed that agriculture In the State has undergone significant changes. However, the benefits of such changes have not been shared evenly across the crops and regions in the State. This resulted in an impressive growth in the production of the superior careals paddy and wheat while the coarse cereal and non-foodgrains crops except oil seed crops have not received due attention in the growth process. This invites special attention of the researchers and policy makers towards the crops along with equitable exploitation of irrigational resources for sustainable growth in agriculture.
