PEASANT FARMING AND THE RURAL ECONOMY OF THE EAST CAPE

Agrekon, 1991, vol. 30, issue 4
Abstract:
Peasant agriculture seeks to supplement off-farm sources of income rather than to sustain rural families. In order to enable small parttime farmers to make the most efficient use of the existing agricultural resouces, support systems must be designed keeping this reality in mind. These systems will differ in many respects from those designed to facilitate the establishment of farmers.
