WITHIN-SALE PRICE VARIATION AT CATTLE AND CARCASS AUCTIONS

Abstract: Price variability within cattle and carcass auction sales is examined through two statistical studies. A substantial element of the price variation at the cattle auction examined is found to be due to differences in the cattle-type factors - sex, carcass weight, fatness and breed, and the factors district of origin, lot size and time of sale. Several of these factors are also found to be important explanators of price variation at carcass auctions.
