Abstract:
The study estimates the yield growth of major pulses in Bangladesh and the factors that influence the output growths of pulses during the period 1973-1992. Contributions of component factors for pulse output growths have been estimated. Average yield of major pulses was very low haveing negligible impact on output growth while their expansion was the dominant factor for increased pulse output growth. Pulse prices did not play any significant role in increasing yield levels excepting for Lentil. Technological progress and varietal development of major pulses have been suggested for augmenting pulse yield in the country.
