Bangladesh Journal of Agricultural Economics, 1994, vol. 17, issue 01-2, 10

Abstract: Based on micro level study, the present study is mainly concerned with examining impact of lined channel (concrete) compared to unlined channel (earthen) of Deep Tubeweel (DTW) project. The analysis showed that command areas of the DTWs were on the average increased by 40 per cent and significant increase in productivity of HYV Boro was possible just because of lining of irrigation channel. Although lining of channel involves huge cost, financial analysis showed that due to higher production, DTWs with lined channel were financially more viable compared to those of with unlined channel. To reduce losses fo scarce water, lining of irrigation channel may be suggested but this needs credit facilities, institutional supports to organize the farmers and technical help for constructing the channels.
