Abstract: This paper focuses on the application of competition law and policy to supermarkets, and more generally on the steps from food production on farms until its arrival on the plate of the consumer. Issues discussed include mergers, abuse of dominance, anticompetitive arrangements, unconscionable conduct, big business, small business relationships, and supermarket codes. The main focus is on Australia but with some reference to international experience.
