Abstract:
With the goal of improving the yield of cabbages for commercial production in the low humid tropics, we screened for better-adapted varieties. The characteristics chosen were heat tolerance (good recovery, good heading), the resistance to Xanthomonas campestris and Ervlnia carotovora. Forty-one varieties were studied between 19B3 and 1988, in 10 trials. The varietal screening resulted in the following choices for the first quarter of the year (the best season): KK Cross, Express Cross 60, Leo No. 80, Guardian, Globe King, YR Summer 50, Utopia, Resist Drum Head, Mascotte, Conquistador, Autumn Hero, Globe Master. During the second quarter-year, attacks of the bacterial disease Ervinla carotovora limit the possibilities of cabbage cultivation in Martinique.
