Abstract: Four cultivars of banana trees were studied to determine their susceptibility to the major pest of this crop, the banana root borer weevil, Cosmopolites sordidus. These cultivars were: Cavendish Grande Naine (AAA), Yangambi kmS (AAA), Owang (AAB) and Pisanq'awak (ABB), They were tested in the field in Guadeloupe, in a place already infested by the weevil. The infestation of each banana tree was determined by measuring the larval galleries and counting the total number of insects in the rhizome at the harvesting. Levels of infestation are compared for the different cultivars and correlations between infestation and characteristics of the plant are discussed.
