QUELQUES PROBLEMES CONCERNANT LA FLORAISON DE L'IGNAME

No 259987, 25th Annual Meeting, July 1-6, 1989, Gosier, Guadeloupe from Caribbean Food Crops Society

----- The flowering of yams is complex. Moreover, the sex-ratio is unbalanced with a preponderance of staminate flowers over pistillate flowers. The flowering behavior of three clones issued from a hybrid population and a local clone of Dioscorea cayenensis-rotundata was studied, using three growth substances. These growth substances : GA3, CCC and ETHREL were sprayed on the aerial parts of plants, 30 days after sprouting. A difference in the flowering potentiality between sex was illustrated. GA3 seems to influence the flowering of both sex but the optimal dose of application remains to be determined. One should enquire on the genetic and/or the enzymatic différencies between the two sexes.
