Are Agri-Food Trade Issues Changing?

Abstract: Agriculture has been one of the least successful aspects of the WTO negotiations, and it was no surprise that the Doha Development Round collapsed in July 2008 over issues pertaining to agricultural trade. The current agenda for negotiations is focused on the three pillars (market access, export subsidies and domestic support) that were established during the Uruguay Round. However, new trade issues have come to the fore and need to be addressed in future WTO negotiations. This special edition of the Estey Centre Journal of International Law and Trade Policy focuses on different aspects of these new trade issues and represents one step in understanding the dynamics of the global market.
