Inégalités et solidarités en agriculture. Signification d'un débat

François Clerc

Économie rurale, 1982, vol. 152

Abstract: Inequalities and solidarity in agriculture the significance of the debate - No branch of activity ever pointed out their internal inequalities more vigorously ! And no internal inequalities were ever so stimatized by their environment ! The explanation of this phenomenon may be found in the concept of the family farm, in the hereditary character of these inequalities or the responsibility of the price-fixing policy, in the impossibility to claim a parity with other branches without reducing internal disparities first. Yet, however great the disparities, farmers do not regard them as contrary to a unified vision of the farming universe. Generally speaking, in a period of structural changes it seems more important to secure equal chances than to attempt an equalization of situations.
