Abstract: The major part of the World population suffers from undernourishment or inadequate food diets and many live in a state of permanent starvation. In most developing countries, an increase of farm production is possible but richer countries will still have to maintain a substantial food aid during the transition period which is likely to last for some time. Now, the French farm potential is not fully utilized and could be adapted to the needs of developing countries. The wheat acreages could substitute grassland on some two and a half million acres, the loss of which could be compensated by an intensification of feed crops. However, the difficulties of implementing such a policy must not be overlooked.
