Le développement du chômage depuis 1974 a-t-il freiné l'exode agricole des jeunes ?

Guenhaël Jégouzo

Économie rurale, 1984, vol. 161

Abstract: It is often assumed that the increase of unemployment during last ten years has slackened migration out of agriculture, but the usual causes of outmigration have continued to be at work. In spite of their deficiencies, evaluations from INSEE surveys suggest - waiting for later examination - that the ratio of farmers'sons entering agricultural activity would be a little higher in 1982 than in 1977, at 20-24 years age and 25-29. The past trend of increasing outmigration would be reversed or at least stopped. Among daughters, the evolution is less obvious. And male migration remains important. The longer the education the lower the entering in agriculture, but this entry ratio is now a little more frequent for those who have received high school education or above.
