Abstract:
Appraisal of the article: « Costs and advantages for the nation of various evolutions in agricultural structures » - This article presents a criticism against the article « Costs and advantages for the nation of various evolutions in agricultural structures » by Levy, Lambert and Papoz published in the « Economie Rurale » n° 86, both against the general method and against the way of calculating certain figures. It is pointed out that the method of costs and advantages has not been used with all necessary precaution : its validity is connected with the scale and horizon considered. A procedure better suited to inform decision centers is proposed : — make an inventory of all the numerous connections between the phenomenon in question and different parts of the economy, — define the field of uncertainty at the horizon in question, — determine the decisions made for an intermediate run wich will have irreversible effects in a long run, — considering all these factors, make up a strategy in the intermediate run. These considerations can also be useful to other problems than those of agricultural structures and the conversion of farmers.
