Abstract:
The polish dairy sector has been facing new prohlems since the beginning of the transition period. Abolition of subsidies and reduction of salaries entailed a drop in consumption of dairy products. In the same time, prices of agricultural inputs increased. As a result, dairy production became unprofitable for farmers. For the same reasons, Polish dairy cooperatives have more and more problems to sell their products. Because the cooling chain is regularly broken, dairy products are of bad quality. They are in competition with Western products which are more expensive but also more attractive. To solve their problems (economic, market, structural, social and technical), Polish dairies have to organize training for their staff, to improve the cooling chain and to organize dairy sector.
