L'economie rurale aux Etats-Unis: etat actuel et perspectives
Alain de Janvry
Économie rurale, 1990, vol. 200
Abstract:
The United States agricultural economics profession remains very lively. This note identifies its specific organizational forms which have helped it maintain its vitality. The profession has recently been criticized for its increasing divorce from the problems of agriculture. Several means for striking a balance between theory, empiricism, and problem solving include the critical role of a professional organization and partial submission of the profession to the demand for its own services.
